Heritage education is increasingly affirmed as an essential requirement in the comprehensive reform of education in Vietnam. Based on an analysis of the concept of “interdisciplinarity” and the interdisciplinary nature of heritage education, this paper highlights the potential of this approach in constructing comprehensive knowledge about heritage while strengthening the connections between schools, cultural institutions, communities, and relevant stakeholders. The paper views heritage as a cultural-social process that is continuously constructed and redefined, thereby raising questions about current approaches to heritage education. Alongside these prospects, the article identifies several key challenges in institutionalization, research, and practice, including policy inconsistencies, gaps in cross-sector dialogue, and limitations in the capacities of implementing actors. In response, it proposes a co-creation model as a strategic solution, establishing a foundation for multi-stakeholder collaboration and shared ownership of knowledge, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of heritage education.
