Abstract

The article discusses the orientation for revising the 2018 General Education Curriculum for the subject Vietnamese Literature in the coming period. In recent years, the new curriculum and textbooks have brought positive changes in teaching and learning, aiming to  develop students’ competencies and moral qualities. However, following the completion of a full cycle of implementation, and in light of the Party’s Resolution 71 on breakthroughs in the development of education and training, the general education curriculum now requires systematic review and comprehensive evaluation. Revising the curriculum so that it more adequately meets the demands of educational reform has become increasingly urgent. The paper, on the one hand, analyzes and comments on several proposals for amending the Literature Curriculum made by education experts, administrators, and teachers; on the other hand, it suggests specific adjustments that both align with the competency–based model and address certain limitations to make the curriculum increasingly compatible with the requirements of language arts and literature teaching in the new context. According to the orientation proposed, the revisions should focus on some terminology, the presentation of curriculum components, and several aspects related to learning outcomes in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
