DANCHEONG ART IN KOREAN TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE: THE CASE OF GEUNJEONGJEON (GYEONGBOKGUNG)

Abstract

This study explores Dancheong (traditional multicolored decorative painting on wooden structures) in Korean traditional architecture, focusing on Geunjeongjeon (근정전) within the Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) complex. The research combines secondary-source analysis with comparative methods to examine the colors, motifs, composition, and functions of Dancheong at Geunjeongjeon. The results indicate that the Dancheong at Geunjeongjeon conveys the majesty and authority of the Joseon Dynasty. Based on these findings, the article offers suggestions for preserving and promoting decorative architectural arts in contemporary Vietnam.
