This paper examines the role of interdisciplinary research in the formulation and implementation of long-term development strategies, taking Quang Ninh Province as a representative case study. Drawing on theoretical frameworks of interdisciplinarity, knowledge production, and scientific convergence, the study argues that complex local development challenges cannot be effectively addressed through single-discipline approaches but require integrating diverse knowledge systems, methodologies, and stakeholder participation. Through an analysis of Quang Ninh’s advantages, potentials, and challenges in the context of transitioning from a “brown” to a “green” economy, the paper proposes four integrated development pillars: (1) Developing cultural and heritage industries; (2) Research on marine and coastal ecosystems associated with the blue economy and climate change adaptation; (3) Spatial organization toward a balance between development and conservation; and (4) The development of a creative, interdisciplinary workforce. The study emphasizes the need to establish institutional frameworks, collaborative mechanisms, and long-term research programs to realize a development model grounded in knowledge, creativity, and sustainability. The findings not only contribute to the case of Quang Ninh but also offer methodological implications for other localities in Vietnam undergoing development model transformation.
